About Us

Introduction:

 

Uma is one of the foremost disciples of Kalaimamani Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman. Uma has been her disciple since the age of four. She had performed her arangetram at the age of 10. She has been performing on stage since 1984.

 

Details regarding performances:

 

She has given over 150 solo and group performances. She has performed in India and foreign countries including Australia, Sri Lanka & United States of America. She has performed lead roles like Lord Muruga, Lord Krishna, and Goddess Parvathi in many dance dramas composed and choreographed by her Guru. She has performed with cine fame Revathy Menon who is also a disciple of Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman.

 

Training, compering, aspects of profile:

 

While in India, she had worked under her guru in training more than 50 students for arangetrams. She had also assisted in nattuvangam and compered on many occasions.  

 

Overseas experiences:

 

She has performed in Sydney, Australia, and in Albany, NY and Charlotte, NC in USA. She had about 40 students in Sydney, Australia in less than a year. Uma was very well appreciated in

Kanda Puranam, which was performed for 7 days in a row in Sri Lanka under her holiness Sri. Muthikrishna Swamigal. She has trained a couple of students while in Albany, NY, USA. For the last 9 years she has been training students in Charlotte, NC.

Other performances:

 

She is an A-Grade artist of Chennai Doordarshan. She has also performed semi-classical performances, Mohini Attam (a classical form of art) in many dance shows. She has also performed in the popular dance drama Gnana Ganga for the Chinmaya mission group.

 

Uma has also performed on the inaugural day of the international film festival held in Hyderabad. She had modeled for Jaya TV for documentary on temple jewelry.

 

Endeavors thus far:

 

She has also done professional courses in cosmetology and aromatherapy and is a certified Cosmetologist and Aromatherapist.

 

Latest endeavor:

 

Under the able guidance and support of her Guru, in 2007, Uma released the Audio CD Pranamamyaham comprising folk songs to suit the dancing of Kummi, Kolattam, Pinnal Kolattam, Kurathi, Pambatti, Karagam, Kavadi, and bharathnatyam songs like pushpanjali and thillana to name a few.
